I am not a frequent movie-goer, but the upcoming trio of movies based on children’s books has got me all excited!

First will be the live action movie of Maurice Sendak’s “Where the Wild Things Are,” on Oct. 16. You can view the trailer here.

Then on Nov. 13, we’ll get the animated film of Roald Dahl’s “Fantastic Mr. Fox,” voiced by a star-studded cast including Meryl Streep, George Clooney, Owen Wilson and Bill Murray. I really don’t like the trend to have superstars voicing the characters in animated movies, because I can’t help seeing the actor instead of the animator’s creation. AND I’m not a huge Clooney fan. But my son and I are reading the book aloud this summer, so we’ll surely go see it together. Here’s the link.

.

I am most looking forward to the March 2010 release of Tim Burton’s imagining of Lewis Carroll’s “Alice in Wonderland.” You just know it’s going to be amazing to look at and, with Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter, brilliantly acted. The movie also stars Anne Hathaway, Crispin Glover, and Helena Bonham Carter. The trailer was just released this week, and WOW! Check it out.

Now’s the time to re-read the books and start saving up for the popcorn!

Oh, I forgot about "Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs," due out Sept. 18. I'm really not sure how this will work as a feature film … you can see the trailer at http://www.cloudywithachanceofmeatballs.com/
